Marcasite is one of those stones that we remember from raiding our grandmother’s jewellery box! Interestingly, a lot of those stones called marcasite were actually pyrite! Marcasite is a very soft gemstone so would often crumble, leading to their being replaced with pyrite. In this particular pair they have been cut with the host rock still attached – so you are getting genuine marcasite but it is nice and sturdy!
This pair of stones came from the Tuscon Gem Show in Arizona, specifically cut as a designer pair. Semi faceted and weighing 28.7 carats, I have added a few little pyrite faceted rounds and set the earrings in sterling silver. They come to a length of 4.9 cm.
These will be a spectacular pair of earrings to wear when you just need a little bit of shine in your day (or night)!
