Elegant and sophisticated, the prehnite stones are the stars of this necklace with their organic, tactile shape and visually interesting with their dark inclusions. Each stone is separated by a large sterling silver ball to give each piece some breathing space – and the opportunity to shine.
Prehnite is a translucent to transparent gem-quality stone. It was the first mineral to be named after an individual – the discoverer being Colonel Hendrik voh Prehn (1733-1785) a Dutch mineralogist and governor of the Cape of Good Hope Colony. It was also the first mineral to be described from South Africa, long before South Africa became one of the most important sources for gemstones. Until recently, prehnite was a rare gem limited to collectors but new deposits have been found so more people can now own some of these gorgeous gems <3
Reflecting the organic almost leaflike cut of the gemstones, the sterling silver hook clasp is in the shape of a bunch of grapes and vineleaf, so, for a different look, you can wear the clasp to the side.
Total length is 49.6cm / 19 ½ inches.
