Calypso – pearl and sterling silver necklace [AP10-N630]
If you’re looking for something different, unusual and attention grabbing, I think this one of a kind necklace might be it! When I saw these amazing shaped pearls I just had to have them and I’m so glad I took the plunge so that I can share their beauty with you.
Each freshwater pearl is two ‘stick’ pearls that have inadvertently rested against each other while in the mussel and the repeated coatings of nacre by the mussel has permanently bonded the two pearls together on one end. Obviously these are highly unusual, their quality is gorgeous and they all have a highly lustrous glow. The tips of the open ends are somewhat delicate so care needs to be taken during storage. But the extra care required certainly is paid back tenfold with their unique appearance.
As they truly look like something that only a mermaid could find, I’ve added a slightly unexpected detail in the form of an oxidized sterling silver clasp of two starfish. The pearls look amazing just as they are, but don’t be afraid to wear the clasp to the side as a feature.
Approximately 19 ½ inches / 50cm in length – the perfect length to wear with a summer dress or top, under a suit or shirt or over a fine knit for a taste of the summer seaside in the cooler months.
Named Calypso after a sea nymph in Greek mythology. |
